The role

Are you a built-environment engineering professional looking to apply your industry knowledge to a new challenge? Why not consider a career in R&D tax credits? You could be using your knowledge and experience to play a vital part in supporting businesses in the UK to access the best R&D tax advice, in turn helping to shape the future of innovation in the UK.

We’re ForrestBrown, a firm of chartered tax advisers specialising in research and development (R&D) tax relief. Our team has substantial experience and technical expertise in this field which, combined with our passion for our clients and entrepreneurial spirit, helps us deliver outstanding results for a wide portfolio of innovative clients. Established in 2013, we have offices in both Bristol and London and are proud to be one of the largest specialist R&D tax teams in the UK.

As part of our research team, you’ll work closely with ForrestBrown’s tax specialists to help uncover the full extent of our clients’ R&D, helping them to maximise their claims - giving clients in exciting industries extra funds to spark a new project or create something truly remarkable.

So, what does that look like on a day-to-day basis?

We’ll look to you to research key information about our clients and their industry to ensure our colleagues understand why a project qualifies for relief, as well as showing our clients that we understand their business and the intricacies of their R&D. Your role will involve regular contact with our clients as part of their project team, discussing their technically complex work in detail to uncover the information needed to make a compelling case for the R&D projects discussed. You’ll then help produce high-quality written reports presenting those projects to support the claim, helping to clearly communicate the detail of the innovation that our clients are undertaking, and to demonstrate how that innovation meets the criteria set out by HMRC.

Our work is broad and varied and you will be excited by the opportunity to meet and discuss innovation with clients across a whole variety of sectors including software, renewables, construction, retail, and manufacturing. So, if you have natural curiosity, love getting to grips with the detail of innovation and have a flair for the written word then this could be the role for you.

So what are we looking for? Well we welcome all kinds of qualities and experiences -ideally, we’re looking for a degree qualified (or equivalent) civil engineer or similar discipline in the built environment. You will have had at least two years’ post graduate experience gained in either consulting engineering, contracts management or as a technical representative in the engineering supply chain. You’ll be keen to apply this knowledge to a diverse range of technical fields and you’ll definitely be a proactive, critical and analytical thinker. You’ll also be an excellent communicator with the ability to translate and communicate complex technical information to a range of audiences, including non-technical.

In return you can expect to join an award-winning business, with the opportunity to work with like minded people, interesting clients across a variety of industries, and the chance to build a career with purpose.
